FB-UA419081Over the period of 6 months EXPO Milano 2015 proved to be great success to Lithuania. The pavilion has been visited, as expected, by over 1.5 million visitors, reaching monthly peaks in September and October.

Lithuanian pavilion was a perfect reflection of the exhibition theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. The pavilion titled Balance was composed of two halls, the first of which was dedicated to the history of the Lithuanian cuisine, traditions, and values. The hall stressed the natural beauty and riches of the country along with its long-lasting links to other countries over the world, including links to Italy and especially Milan. Exhibits that were very popular among the Italian visitors included pieces from the Lithuanian Art Museum (a canvas Reaper (Pjovėja) by K. Ruseckas) and the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Having included a fork from the era of Bona Sforza and a few tiles decorated with symbols of Milan in the pavilion’s exhibition paved the way to organizing an exhibition dedicated to the Palace of the Grand Dukes in the historic Sforza Castle, one of the top museums in Milan.

The second – white – hall of the pavilion on numerous occasions presented visitors with a pleasant surprise – Lithuanian food tastings. Several dozen Lithuanian companies presented their products over the period of 6 months. Presentations of organic food and, most importantly, offering Vytautas, natural mineral water from Lithuania, took the pavilion to the leading ranking in one of the categories in a programme encouraging sustainability, run by the Italian Ministry of the Environment.

This time, Lithuania brought an exquisite cultural programme, crowned by an exhibition by the Palace of the Grand Dukes at the Sforza Castle, opened on the occasion of the National day of Lithuania in EXPO 2015. Outstanding performances by Bel Canto choir and St. Cristopher’s Chamber Orchestra of Vilnius municipality were part of the programme too. The visitors were equally impressed by performances given by young dancers, folk and neo-folk music bands, as well as jazz performers, coupled by exhibitions of textile and photo artists.

Besides presentations of traditional Lithuanian foods and drinks (with a special focus on the national heritage), hosts of the pavilion included true masters of culinary scene: Chocolate Naïve team presented world-famous chocolate, team of coffee makers from Vilnius Crooked Nose & Coffee Stories offered a chance to taste truly original coffee, deserts were brought by VMG team, while the closing dinner was brought to the guests of the pavilion by Deivydas Praspaliauskas, titled Best Lithuanian chef for 2 consecutive years.

The Lithuanian pavilion enjoyed a number of high-standing and honourable guests from Lithuania and abroad. The presentation of Lithuania at the World Expo was praised by H.E. Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, visiting it on the National Day, while designers of the exhibition and the entire team received positive comments by Algirdas Butkevičius, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, visiting the pavilion in October, Ministers of the Environment and Agriculture, who visited the exhibition on different occasions, Vytenis Andriukaitis, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, mayors of a number of Lithuanian towns and cities, CEOs and businessmen.
